No sound from your audio guide: a useful troubleshooting order

When an audio guide is silent, first check whether playback starts and where the phone sends the sound. A moving playback timer with no audible output suggests a different path from a player that keeps loading. Change one thing at a time and retest the same recording after each change.

Does playback visibly begin?

Press play deliberately. Browsers can block automatic audio starts; the MDN autoplay guide explains this distinction. Correctly recognising a location does not mean that a browser will immediately play sound without interaction.

If the timer moves, check the output next. If the player stays in a loading state, review the connection and access to the recording. Then try another available story to see whether the problem affects only one item.

Check volume and the output device

While the recording is playing, raise media volume cautiously. Check whether sound is being sent to headphones or another connected device. If necessary, briefly test without that connection somewhere you will not disturb others.

Can you hear another known recording on the same phone? If so, focus on the audio guide and its settings. If not, investigate the device's audio output first. Choosing a different walking route will not address that problem.

Review the specific website setting

In a browser, a sound permission or mute setting may be relevant. Google describes Chrome site settings, including sound. Look for the setting attached to the actual page you are using.

Do not begin by clearing all browser data. That could remove sessions or prepared content. Record the affected story and any error message instead. Our offline audio guide checklist helps when the issue occurs only without a connection.

Retest before continuing the walk

Once sound returns, try pause, resume and screen locking if that is part of your intended use. Continue walking after confirming the behaviour. The audio-walk preparation guide provides the broader setup sequence.

If only automatic starts fail, treat that separately from sound output and read how GPS audio guides work. Separating the symptoms prevents you from changing settings that already work while the actual cause lies elsewhere.
