Using a Berlin audio guide offline: what to test first
A Berlin audio guide works offline only when the particular service makes everything you need available without a connection. That may include recordings, map information and access to your selected tour. GPS alone is not enough. Check the stated feature and test the complete experience before your walk, rather than relying on a page you have already opened.

What offline needs to mean for your outing
A saved recording might play without internet while the map or selection screen still needs a connection. A map might also be available without the stories having downloaded. The useful question is therefore: “Can I open my chosen walk and use all its necessary parts without internet?”
KiezWalk's product page describes location-linked stories. That does not establish a complete offline mode. Check the current application and its instructions before planning an outing that depends on using it without mobile data.
Test more than the first recording
While connected to Wi-Fi, prepare the actual content you intend to use. If the service offers an explicit download, let it finish. A recording that is already playing may have loaded part of its content in advance; this says little about whether another story will be available.
Disconnect internet access for the test and reopen the intended workflow. Check the following:
- Can you still find the selected tour or story?
- Does a second recording, not previously played, start?
- Can you move forwards and backwards within a recording?
- Is the information you need for orientation still available?
Restore your normal connections afterwards. A successful test at home does not test location-triggered playback at every stop. Our explanation of how GPS audio guides work separates these functions.
Keep a simple fallback
Save the start, endpoint and names of the main stops somewhere independent of the audio service. If the offline test fails, you can plan to use mobile data or choose a walk you would still enjoy without recordings.
A map application's offline feature does not supply missing audio stories. Equally, a saved recording does not provide complete navigation. Decide which parts you actually need for this outing and check each one, instead of assuming that one downloaded item covers the rest.
Offline does not mean battery-free
The screen, location services and playback can still use power without mobile data. Charge your phone before a longer outing and prepare available content early so you are not trying to download large files on the street. Our guide to saving battery on an audio walk offers further practical checks.
When comparing services, use the Berlin audio guide selection guide. The useful evidence is a successful test with your own device and chosen content, rather than a broad claim on a listing page.
