Walk Prenzlauer Berg: A brewery, a square and a water tower
A Prenzlauer Berg walking tour can be a simple sequence: Kulturbrauerei, Kollwitzplatz and Wasserturmplatz. Allow around two hours as your own planning reserve, with extra time if you want to visit an exhibition or stop for a meal.

Start with the brewery buildings
Begin near Schönhauser Allee and Sredzkistraße. The Kulturbrauerei is a former brewery complex with cultural uses today. Look at the scale of the brick buildings from the surrounding public streets, and enter courtyards only where access is open.
The useful question is how an industrial site becomes part of a residential neighbourhood’s cultural life. You can consider that without booking an event. Compare the large buildings with the smaller rhythm of the streets around them.
Continue through the neighbourhood
- Sredzkistraße and Kollwitzstraße: Walk towards Kollwitzplatz. Notice how entrances, balconies and ground-floor spaces shape the street. Keep private stairwells and residential courtyards out of your itinerary unless access is explicitly offered.
- Kollwitzplatz: Take a pause rather than treating the square as another quick photograph. Check current market arrangements if that is part of your plan; the walk does not depend on a market being there.
- Wasserturmplatz: Continue towards Knaackstraße and the water tower’s surrounding green space. The higher areas involve a steep stair access in the official description, so do not assume this is a step-free route.
Let the difficult history remain visible
The tower’s surroundings are not only a pleasant neighbourhood view. The official visitor description also notes the site’s use by the Nazis. Read the interpretation at the place and distinguish the history of the site from what it is used for today. When walking with children, choose the level of detail deliberately.
One area is enough
Use KiezWalk to listen to a story near one stop, then look at the place again. If you have less time, keep just the brewery and Kollwitzplatz. If you have more, add one specific indoor visit after checking its current opening arrangements.
There is no need to add Mauerpark and every street on Kastanienallee to the same outing. Coming back with another question often reveals more than stretching the first walk. If you already know the landmarks, try the walk ideas for Berlin locals.
